June 2014

Corlurgan NS 'Activity Zone'

Friday the 6th June saw a very busy day for the Corlurgan School community. Following our annual trip to Breffni Park for our sports day, the children, parents and teachers returned to school for the official opening of Corlurgan NS 'Activity Zone'. Fr Ultan Mc Goohan commenced the proceeding with a blessing and special guests on the day 'Evelyn, Clodagh & Kieran O'Reilly', members of Ireland's fittest family, showed us how it's done! Some Corlurgan families rose to the challenge and performed very well on the equipment! We commend their bravery! The occasion was rounded off with ice-cream and refreshments and a great day was had by all.

Junior Entrepreneurial Programme

We were also awarded our JEP (Junior Entrepreneurial Programme) Flag for the ‘Multi-Shedzz’ project in 5th & 6th Class. Congratulations to all of the children and their teacher, Mr. Keaney, for their hard work and determination in making this project a success!

Annual School Tour - Thursday 19th June

We thoroughly enjoyed another very successful school tour full of fun and activities! We spent the first part of our day doing outdoor land activities in Skerries – ‘Outdoor Dublin’ and then spent a wonderful afternoon enjoying water sports! Lots of castles were built in the sand on Skerries Beach and rounded off a fantastic day with a surprise pizza event! General consensus was that the children had an 'awesome' day!

Killenkere Pet Farm

Our Junior/Senior/1st Class pupils visited Killenkere Pet Farm on Thursday 12th June. The children enjoyed interacting with the animals and the surprise trailer ride! A few naps were necessary on the way back to school! They all had a wonderful time!

'Blacklion Burren' Poetry competition

3rd/4th Class celebrated success in the 'Blacklion Burren' Poetry competition. The class won the overall prize for their poem entitled 'Blacklion Burren'. Congratulations to all of the children and their teacher Mrs. Mary Brady.

Blacklion Burren
Unique rock formations
Where lug and lag lie,
Eerie superstition surrounds the giants leap,
Mythical creatures lurk under the Druids table
Venturing into the inky black unknown
Where flickering shadows pierce the darkness
Stepping in chilly silence
To discover limestone cascading into monsters teeth.

Some of the children also won prizes in the individual age categories: Oscar Brady, Johnny Hancu Matthew Willis, Cillian Moran & Eliza Haddow.

We are involved in several projects including Comenius, Active Schools and Green Schools
