Friday the 6th June saw a very busy day for the Corlurgan School community. Following our annual trip to Breffni Park for our sports day, the children, parents and teachers returned to school for the official opening of Corlurgan NS ‘Activity Zone’. Fr Ultan Mc Goohan commenced the proceeding with a blessing and special guests on the day ‘Evelyn, Clodagh & Kieran O’Reilly’, members of Ireland’s fittest family, showed us how it’s done! Some Corlurgan families rose to the challenge and performed very well on the equipment! We commend their bravery! The occasion was rounded off with ice-cream and refreshments and a great day was had by all.

Blacklion Burren Unique rock formations
Where lug and lag lie,
Eerie superstition surrounds the giants leap,
Mythical creatures lurk under the Druids table
Venturing into the inky black unknown
Where flickering shadows pierce the darkness
Stepping in chilly silence
To discover limestone cascading into monsters teeth.
Some of the children also won prizes in the individual age categories: Oscar Brady, Johnny Hancu Matthew Willis, Cillian Moran & Eliza Haddow.
Our children recently participated in the Peace Proms in Citywest in Dublin. They performed with the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland and children from schools all over the country.

Green in Action in Corlurgan N.S.
All hands were on deck in Corlurgan recently for a "green afternoon of action".
The school which has recently been awarded its first green flag is already working towards the next one. With the help of Cavan County Council staff member Marie Sheridan pupils from 5th and 6th classes picked the litter from the road, pathways and hedges in front of the school.
A hedgerow was planted on the school grounds by parents and children. Thirty native trees were supplied by the Native Woodland Trust supported by the Irish Independent and KPMG for this purpose.
A new raised bed was assembled and prepared for vegetable planting. Every pupil in the school ably assisted by green fingered mothers planted a seed ranging from sunflowers and corn to peas and strawberries.
The signs of Spring are finally visible in Corlurgan school with daffodils, tulips and hyacinths blooming and all are waiting anxiously to see if there will be any visitors to the nesting boxes.
With baby chestnuts and oaks thriving, Corlurgan is certainly making an impressive green footprint.
